In February 2014, The Line launched a hugely ambitious crowdfunding campaign in order to facilitate the sculpture walk, successfully raising over £140,000 in less than eight weeks. Co-founded by art dealer Megan Piper and internationally-renowned urban generation expert Clive Dutton, The Line aims to present existing work, on loan for a period of two years, in a new context. Broadly following the line of the Meridian, and with the introduction of new work each year, The Line will create a permanent outdoor exhibition space along east London's waterways.

For the inaugural installation, Damien Hirst's 'Sensation' (2003) has been selected. The bronze cast of an anatomical model of human skin was first exhibited in 2004 at 'In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida', Hirst's three-person exhibition with Angus Fairhurst and Sarah Lucas at Tate Britain. The other featured artists are Thomas & Craighead, Martin Creed, Abigail Fallis, Gary Hume, Eduardo Paolozzi, Tom Price, Sterling Ruby and Piotr Uklanski.
