Eduardo Sarabia mixes mythology with history and contemporary history. Montezuma's Revenge in the US has a very different meaning from the one that Eduardo has here for La Venganza de Moctezuma. It is not something that happens to tourists when they go to Mexico and they drink the water but it refers to the drug wars happening right now between cartels and the involvement between the U.S. and Mexico. It also relates to a mythical kind of bird from Aztec culture, a bird that according to myth is found in the south of Mexico. The feathers from which made up the crown of Montezuma II's headdress. This image is the world in flames as Montezuma's revenge is poured all over the world.
