Michael Joo exhibits 'Suture' at The Bronx Museum of Arts, New York

November 18, 2014 by Ishah

The geological Ordovician suture fault known as the Cameron Line has been one of the main influences behind Michael Joo's newest body of work 'Suture'. Joo interprets the work as a meditation on the transformation, perspectives, and environments that are unique to the Bronx. The exhibition embodies Joo's ongoing concern for space and environment and our desire to work with or against it. The exhibition currently showing at the Bronx Museum, New York is on display until Sunday the 4th of January 2015.

Joo is interested in alternative ways of looking and depicting the landscape and it's raw geological forms. Using a vast array of techniques to match each location’s unique physiognomy, his work's reflect the geological disjointedness when strata is exposed, hidden and fractured similar to the reality of what is so unique to the Upper Manhattan and Bronx neighborhoods. 'Suture' implies a merging of sculpture and photography, a blurring of boundaries between media, time, and self.
