Despite committed attempts to conceal his real name from the public and media, Banksy is recognized by some to be the street artist Robin or Robert Banks, and is internationally known for being the hand behind thousands of distinctive stencilled graffiti and street art works in the UK and abroad.

Banksy is widely known to create humorous and deceptive works, which often utilise the surfaces on which they appear so as to distort perspective and space. Political satire features largely in his work, as does more simple situational comedy. Recent images have included kissing policemen, a window into Paradise from the Gaza strip and a yellow line road-painter who’s sacked his responsibility to bring the lines over the pavement and into the growth of a yellow flower on the city walls.
