This is a project produced as a fundraiser for the children’s arts charity The House of Fairy Tales founded by Gavin Turk and Deborah Curtis. His own twist on the ‘shave your beard off for charity’ - Project Beard saw the artist transform himself into the persona’s of six historical patricians of 19th and 20th century art all in one day of extreme hairdressing (he had a very long beard at the time). This chimeric shape-shifting has been a consistent thread through his work since re-fashioning the popularist ‘wax-work’ in 1991 with his iconic sculpture ‘pop’.

The artist donates 50% of the profits of this print to his children’s arts charity - The House of Fairy Tales. This is a national arts charity that produces high quality art adventures for children to help inspire learning, ethics, love of nature, environmental awareness, curiosity and imagination. www.houseoffairytales.org

Gavin Turk

Gavin Turk was born in Guildford, 1967, and studied at the Royal College of Art. In 1991, he was denied his MA degree from the college having exhibited only a blue heritage plaque of his name on the white walls of the exhibition space. This is the same plaque printed on Turk’s Pretty Taxing disc sleeve.

Questioning the originality and authenticity of art has led to Turk’s eminence as one of the young British artists, and has resulted in his work being collected by Tate Modern, London; Charles Saatchi; Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood, UK and Victoria and Albert Musuem, London.
