Karen Kilimnik was born in 1962 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she still lives and works. She is represented by 303 Gallery, New York. A painter and installation artist, her work looks at pop culture and celebrity, often making pastiches of Old Masters canvases and painting her subjects not from life but photographs and media cuttings.
Kilimnik’s recent solo exhibitions have included Galerie Sprüth/Magers, Munich, Germany, 2003; 303 Gallery, New York, 2006 and Karen Kilimnik, Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago; Aspen Art Museum, Aspen, Colorado; MOCA Miami and Serpentine Gallery, London, 2007.
