Sovereign European Art Prize - Finalists Announced

The 2009-2010 prize received a record number of entries, with artists nominated by art experts from over 30 European countries. The shortlist, which includes David Birkin, was selected by this year's judges Sir Peter Blake, Tim Marlow, Philly Adams, Gavin Turk, Robert Punkenkhofer, Joseph Backstein and Nasser Azam.

This work will be auctioned as part of the prize on the 22nd June, with funds raised going to support the Barbican Centre Trust. To place a bid or attend the auction, please contact rachael@sovereignartfoundation.com

The entries show a strong return to painting and as Robert Punkenhofer noted, 'The more than 350 entries clearly documented the wonderful diversity and strength of Europe's artistic scene. The prize will certainly raise the visibility of some of the most promising painters and photographers from the continent.'

This year's exhibition will be held at the Barbican Centre, London from the 9-20th June where the judges will decide the winner of the 25,000 euro prize.
