A simple discarded apple core, cast here in silver with garnet pips is imbued with the loss of innocence of our contemporary world. Now “rotten to the core”, the fruits of the utopian English garden have become a post feminist fairy tale symbol of temptation and the fall from grace.

Gavin Turk

Gavin Turk was born in Guildford, 1967, and studied at the Royal College of Art. In 1991, he was denied his MA degree from the college having exhibited only a blue heritage plaque of his name on the white walls of the exhibition space. This is the same plaque printed on Turk’s Pretty Taxing disc sleeve.

Questioning the originality and authenticity of art has led to Turk’s eminence as one of the young British artists, and has resulted in his work being collected by Tate Modern, London; Charles Saatchi; Cass Sculpture Foundation, Goodwood, UK and Victoria and Albert Musuem, London.
