Extraordinary Measures

April 20, 2010 by Ellie

Picture 1

From 1st May to 26th September, Belsay Hall, Castle and Gardens in Northumberland will be transformed with commissions from leading, international contemporary artists including Ron Mueck, Slinkachu and Mat Collishaw. Extraordinary Measures will take visitors into an Alice in Wonderland world of dark enchantment with stunning exhibits that explore distortion of scale, perfect for big kids and little ones.

English Heritage is delighted to have co-commissioned, with Haunch of Venison, a new work for the 14th century Belsay Castle. For Extraordinary Measures, Collishaw has refashioned the Victorian fantastique for the 21st century as his new zoetrope – or spinning wheel – conjures up a three-dimensional world of imps and butterflies, all dancing before the visitor’s eyes.
