Speaking of Art

May 1, 2010 by Ellie

Phaidon have recently released Speaking of Art - Four Decades of Art in Conversation, which presents conversations between William Furlong and 43 artists, composers and curators who have changed the course of recent art history. Collected from the archives of Audio Arts, a one-of-a-kind audiocassette magazine begun in 1973 by Furlong, a professor of art history, Speaking of Art provides invaluable insight into the most creative minds of modern and contemporary art, from Marcel Duchamp, John Cage and Joseph Beuys to Jeff Wall, Damien Hirst, Sarah Lucas and Tacita Dean.

William Furlong is the founder of Audio Arts, a unique audiocassette magazine distributed and heard internationally. For over thirty years he has recorded interviews with leading international artists at the most significant art events in Britain, Europe and the United States. A practising artist, Furlong is also Visiting Professor at Wimbledon College of Art in London.

With an introduction by Mel Gooding, the publication provides privileged access to celebrated artists worldwide and a unique understanding of art works and the practice of art since 1974.
