SAVE THE DATE: Frieze Brunch to launch Damien Hirst work - Wednesday 10th October, 10am-12pm

October 1, 2012 by Kay

Press release: On October 10th, Other Criteria will exclusively launch a sumptuous collection of four individually designed hand-made rugs by Damien Hirst at their Hinde Street store in London. Each rug is based on one of the artist’s iconic Spin paintings. Also being launched are two smaller scale versions of Hirst’s sculpture, Anatomy of an Angel and new lenticular prints showing For The Love of God, Hirst’s iconic diamond skull.

The spin paintings are emulated in the exquisitely detailed hand-knotted, 100% wool rugs. Customers will be able to pick their favourites amongst the titles, including Beautiful Saucy Spit Roast It'll All End in Tears Rug and Beautiful Abstract Landscape Pretentious Art Nonsense Rug. The rugs vary between 2m and 3m in diameter and come in very small, limited editions of 3 to 7. Prices from £25,000.00 exc vat

The edition, Anatomy of an Angel by Damien Hirst reflects in miniature his original, classically posed Carrara marble sculpture of the same name. The angel is based on Alfred Boucher’s sculpture ‘L'Hirondelle’ (1920). In Hirst’s version, cross-sections of her body show the anatomical structure beneath the skin, revealing she is human after all. Cast in either black or white resin, each in a limited edition, the signature, title and edition number are etched into the resin by the artist. Prices from £6,000.00 exc vat

The latest For the Love of God prints are made using the most advanced lenticular printing technique, creating an illusion of depth that shows the diamond skull in its full glory.
