Albers says, ‘Every time a suitcase comes up in a story something will happen. The planning stage is completely over and one packs his suitcase and leaves. With a suitcase we cross a borderline. The other side. Hence the title ‘Other’. It can be any border, really. So for me it symbolises new beginnings. A fresh start, a new adventure. In my mind all new beginnings are fragile, as we never quite know what is going to happen. I love the fragility of my suitcase. I placed it in the gallery a bit like unattended luggage, as I wanted to transport some eerie danger element as well. Having lived in London during the IRA bombings an unattended suitcase definitely has got something eerie. I like that eerieness, too. And I think all beginnings are fragile and dangerous as well. Other connotations are plentiful. The money suitcase in a game show for example and sometimes I think it gives you a look into something that’s normally hidden. A bit like an ultrasound image of ones dark inner body. The super main thing is that life is a journey.’
