Other Criteria at Art Cat Boot Fair 2017

July 4, 2017 by Mary

2017 is the year the Art Car boot fair gets a re-boot with our theme The Original. The fair began in 2004 with the intention of gently kicking against the increasing commercialisation of the postSaatchi /Frieze London art market back then and creating a more anarchic marketplace where like-minded artists could have some fun with their work, try out some new ideas and barter directly with their audience. It has taken place in a car park just off Brick Lane since 2004 and in that time, has featured literally hundreds of artists from Turner Prize winners to students, kids and lately the cream of the urban art scene. 2017 is the year the boot fair gets a re-boot with a fabulous new venue right in the heart of Vauxhall’s new gallery district, flanked by Newport Street Gallery and Beaconsfield with Cabinet Gallery and Gasworks down the road.

Expect lots of serious art bargains as always, boots of originals, every artist listed will be present, plus there will be masses of frivolous goings-on, less endless ‘limited editions’ and more of the art world really letting its hair down and trying out new things for an engaged, fun and art-loving crowd.

In collaboration with Newport Street Gallery, Other Criteria will host a selection of artists at The Art Car Boot Fair, selling unique works and holding book signings throughout the day. Including Harland MillerMustafa HulusiHelen BeardPhillip AllenMarcus Harvey & Rachel Howard.

Other Criteria at SP-Arte 2017

March 29, 2017 by Mary

Other Criteria is pleased to announce it’s participation in SP-Arte. Our booth will feature iconic Spot works by Damien Hirst, large scale limited edition lenticulars and screenprints alongside his collaboration with Lalique.

SP-Arte – São Paulo International Art Festival – reaches its 13th edition, constituting a dynamic platform for a cultural and artistic exchange between curators, collectors, artists, galleries, works and admirers of art. As such, it stands as the translator of the current, the new and of the already established production, in addition to promoting the professionalisation of Brazil’s creative market. During the event, modern and contemporary art are the centre of attention of debates and creations scattered throughout the city of São Paulo.

SP-Arte, the foremost art fair in Latin America will take place between April 6 and 9, 2017 with leading galleries, artists and talks that continue to enrich the vibrant local cultural scene. Transformed into the São Paulo International Art Festival, SP-Arte now extends beyond the boundaries of Ibirapuera Park to promote a citywide event that includes museums, galleries and cultural points.

The fair's various sectors offer a mix of acclaimed artists and a selection of works which inspire and challenge visitors. The Main sector includes international and national exhibitors presenting highlights of worldwide contemporary art and Brazilian modernism.

On the top floor, SP-Arte's Design Sector, in its second edition, will feature furniture, lighting, design objects and antiques. Known especially for its craft woodwork, the Brazilian design scene is one of the most prestigious around the globe. Exhibitors represent iconic names such as Oscar Niemeyer, Lina Bo Bardi, Roberto Burle Marx and the Campana Brothers, to mention a few.

Performances will also take place throughout the corridors as part of the third edition of the PerformanceSector, developed in partnership with the university of Belas Artes, under the tutelage of artist Paula Garcia. An open call that is already in progress will be used to select the artists to perform during the event. SP-Arte's Talksprogram in collaboration with ARTE!Brasileiros, promotes debates between local and international experts discussing art and its trends.

In addition to a strong program within the Bienal Pavilion, SP-Arte has partnered with the city's leading museums to organise events and programming. Gallery Night officially enters the SP-Arte week calendar with galleries, museums and cultural centres hosting special programming during late hours. Another event set to kick off the SP-Arte week will be the exhibition produced with Videobrasil, presenting an overview of contemporary Brazilian video art.

SP-Arte was founded in 2005 as the premiere art fair of its kind in Brazil. It has distinguished itself as the leading art fair in Latin America, renowned for its rigorous selection process and criterion to present the world’s most important galleries. São Paulo is a cultural hub, home to Brazil’s most prestigious museums, foundations and galleries. During the event, SP-Arte establishes partnerships with these institutions to create a strong agenda of events that engages locals and visitors to various cultural encounters in São Paulo.
