Mat Collishaw at Freud Museum

December 2, 2009 by Ellie

Mat Collishaw's 'Hysteria' exhibition at the Freud Museum has been extended until January 3rd and relates to the print hanging above Freud's iconic psychoanalytical couch depicting a neurologist showing his students a woman in a hysterical fit. Collishaw includes sculptures, projections and site-specific installations based on the studies of hypnotics to cure hysteria, the ideas of which were a huge influence on Freud. Also included is a zoetrope by the artist in which the animated figures of elves, snails and butterflies engage in sinister activities once the wheel's revolutions are illuminated by strobe.
