Faggionato Fine Arts in collaboration with Trolley Gallery are delighted to present Collective Noun, a show of new and recent work by twelve artists from the Trolley Gallery programme, co-curated and exhibited at Faggionato Fine Arts.
Whitney McVeigh, Kelly-Anne Davitt, Nina Gehl and Jennifer Taylor share a preoccupation with the recently archaic, relocating objects, images and references from their original, often forgotten function into new forms and meaning, as in Just A Little Bit Afraid Of You, 2010, Taylor’s cryptically visceral assemblage of found ceramics and doughy sausages, or the poignant accumulation of memory in the worn surfaces of McVeigh’s Home, 2010.
Boo Saville’s recreated anatomical drawing Open Up, 2010, borrows from the same lexicon of visual archaic ephemera, while demonstrating a deeply physical process through the intensely worked Biro surface. The immediacy of materials and physicality predominates in the highly expressive, gestural works of Juliana Cerceira Leite, Shoplifter and Stephanie Quayle.
