Mat Collishaw to feature in 12th Istanbul Biennial

September 6, 2011 by Kay

Mat Collishaw Bullet Hole 12th Istanbul Biennial 17 September – 13 November 2011

Mat Collishaw’s seminal work Bullet Hole will feature in the 12th Istanbul Biennial.

Bullet Hole, a closeup photograph of a human scalp apparently fractured by a bullet, created an immediate sensation. Collishaw took the original image from a pathology textbook, which in fact showed a wound caused by an ice pick, and mounted the work on fifteen lightboxes. Bullet Hole also gave the exhibition its name; according to the cagalogue, “the title comes from Mat Colishaw’s lightbox, dedicated to a moment of impact, a preserved now, a freeze frame”.
