Simon Periton was born in Kent in 1964 and graduated form Central St. Martin’s School of Art and Design, London, in 1990. His work centres around the subversion of delicate and ordinarily ‘cosy’ structures such as the traditional doily and paper cut outs. He is known for working with paper and glass as a way of enhancing their transparency and structure.
Periton has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad, with solo shows at Sadie Coles HQ, London; Karyn Lovegrove Gallery, Los Angeles; Vacio 9, Madrid and The Modern Institute, Glasgow. His work has also been shown in numerous group exhibitions: Ideal Worlds: New Romanticism in Contemporary Art, Schirn Kunsthalle Frankfurt, Frankfurt-am-Main, 2005; Sarah & Simon, Platform 3, London, 2006; Effigies, Modern Art, London, 2007 and Dark Monarch, Tate St Ives, St Ives, 2008. The artist lives and works in London and is represented by Sadie Coles HQ, London.
