How do I know artworks sold by Other Criteria are authentic?

All works are signed, and the bill of sale that is supplied with each work serves as your certificate of authenticity. Other Criteria has a direct working relationship with each of its artists, and we see that association in itself vouches for the work.

Can I view my artwork in person prior to purchase?

Yes. We have stores in London, New York and Ilfracombe in Devon (UK). If a particular work is not available in the store nearest to you, we can arrange for it to be transported there for a viewing.

What is an edition?

An edition is an artwork that is produced in an identical way more than once; a 'limited edition' artwork is one of a series that was produced in this way a set number of times.

What is a print?

A print is a work of art that is created by an artist and then printed by hand using a variety of process, usually by a professional artisan printer under direct supervision of the artist. For information on the different processes used in the production of prints by Other Criteria artists, click here.

What is a unique multiple?

This term describes an artwork that is produced more than once, but is not identical in every detail to other works in the same series. Each work will differ very slightly different one to the next, either by virtue of the fact the pieces are handmade, or because the artist has made a deliberate decision to introduce a small 'unique' element into each work.

What are the options on framing?

Most prints are available with or without a frame. If you wish the work to be framed, we can arrange that for you, but will always follow the artist's specifications on framing for that work. The artist's chosen style of frame will be illustrated on our website, or if it's not shown online, can be viewed in store. You are of course free to choose your own design of frame, and if this is the case, we can put you in touch with a framing company we know and recommend.

If you buy a print online and are interested in framing for your purchase, please add a note to the customer comments section and a sales assistant will be in touch.

How do I best care for my artwork?

That depends on what you have purchased – our team will be able to advise you on the best care for your individual piece. In general terms, though, it is best to avoid cleaning works, and to keep them away from moisture, direct heat and sunlight. For long term storage please speak to a consultant. We pack the works with safe transportation in mind not storage.

Does the wallpaper have installation instructions?

For optimum results use a high quality pre-mixed adhesive and follow manufacturers's instructions. Allow to soak until pliable, approximately 4-5 minutes, making sure edges are well pasted. Do not overlap, use butt joints. Carefully wipe off excess paste immediately with a clean damp sponge. Failure to do so may result in serious damage to the surface. after hanging 2 or 3 lengths inspect the result to ensure that there is no shading or other faults.

Prepare wall by removing all traces of dirt, old wallpaper, distemper or loose paint. Do not hang wallcoverings on any wall with a history of dampness. Fill any cracks and allow to dry before hanging. Absorbent surfaces can be sized with a weak solution of wallcovering adhesive following the manufacturer's instructions. Lining paper should be hung horizontally and allowed to dry completely. To avoid shrinkback we recommend that the paper is allowed to dry out naturally. It is therefore also recommended that any central heating is turned off until the natural process has occurred.
